TARAS SHTONDA

 

Since 1992 Taras Shtonda has been a principal soloist at the National Opera of Ukraine. In this theatre he has performed many principal roles of the bass repertoire, such as Filippo II and Grande Inquisitore in Don Carlos, Zaccaria in Nabucco, Ramphis, Il Re in Aida by Verdi, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini, Méphistophélès in Faust by Gounod, Boris Godunov and Pimen in Boris Godunov, Dossifey in Khovanschina by Moussorgsky, Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni by Mozart, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Kotchubei in Mazepa, and King Rene in Iolanta by Tchaikovsky, Prince Galitsky in Prince Igor by Borodin and others.

 

In 2002 Taras debuted at the Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow) in the role of Dossifey and has ever since sung there principal roles such as: Russlan in Russlan and Ludmila by Glinka, Kotchubei in Mazepa by Tchaikovsky, Priest in Katerina Izmailova by Shostakovitch, King René in Iolanta by Tchaikovsky, Pimen in Boris Godunov by Moussorgsky and others. The latest important role on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre was Boris Godunov in a production by A.Vedernikov and A.Sokurov in April 2009.

 

Shtonda’s upcoming engagements include among others Boris at the Bolshoi Theatre, Gremin at the Oslo opera house, Four Villains (Les Contes de Hoffmann) at Malmö opera, Mamyrov (Enchantress by Tchaikovsky) in Antwerp as well as concerts and recitals in Denmark, Norway and the Ukraine.
