Finnish dramatic tenor Johannes Vatjus started his musical training at an early age. In 2009 he became student of Esko Jurvelin in Oulu. In Finland Johannes Vatjus first gained huge popularity as a tango singer winning the famous Finnish tango competition, but since 2016 he has studied classical singing with Francesca Micarelli and Massimo Lamberti at the Belcanto Academy in Italy. He has also received coaching from Jaakko Ryhänen, Margareta Brandt, Brian Jauhianen, Kamal Khan and is currently student of Irina Gavrilovici.
From 2020 he has been engaged at the Finnish National Opera, first as a soloist trainee and then as an ensemble member, however from year 2022 he is freelance singer. At the FNO his roles have included 1. Geharnischter (Die Zauberflöte), 2. Nazarener (Salome), Gaston (La Traviata), Beppe (I Pagliacci), Ubaldo Piangi (The Phantom of the Opera).
Recent and upcoming engagements include Antti, the leading male role in Leevi Madetoja's opera Pohjalaisia (Ostrobotnians) at Vaasa Opera and Alfred in "Die Fledermaus" at Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. In coming season he will also sing Antti at the Finnish National Opera.
