Finnish tenor Johannes Vatjus started his musical training at an early age. In 2009 he became student of Esko Jurvelin, a well-known Finnish tenor.
Since 2016 he has studied with Francesca Micarelli and Massimo Lamberti at the Belcanto Academy in Italy. He has received coaching from Jaakko Ryhänen, Margareta Brandt, Brian Jauhianen, Kamal Khan and is currently student of Irina Gavrilovici.
Johannes Vatjus has gained popularity as a tango singer winning the famous Finnish Tango King Competition in 2019.
From 2020 he has been engaged at the Finnish National Opera, first as a soloist trainee and currently as an ensemble member. His roles in Helsinki have included 1. Geharnischter (Die Zauberflöte), 2. Nazarener (Salome), Gaston (La Traviata), Beppe (I Pagliacci), Ubaldo Piangi (The Phantom of the Opera).
Recent and upcoming engagements include Antti in Leevi Madetoja's opera Pohjalaisia at Vaasa opera and Alfred in "Die Fledermaus" at Finnish National Opera in Helsinki.
