Finnish tenor Jyrki Anttila has recently made his name in the most iconic Wagnerian roles, singing Siegmund in Die Walküre at the Latvian National Opera and the Finnish National Opera, the title role in Parsifal at the Finnish National Opera, Erik in The Flying Dutchman at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Estonian National Opera, the title role in Tannhäuser at the Estonian National Opera, Siegfried at the Eurajoki Belcanto Festival, as well as Tristan in Tristan und Isolde at the Finnish National Opera.
He has studied at the Oulu Conservatory and at the Sibelius Academy opera studio from 1995 to 1998, as well as with the renowned bass singer Jaakko Ryhänen from 1996 to 2002.
Anttila has been engaged as a soloist at the Finnish National Opera from 1998-2021 and has appeared as a guest soloist at the Tampere Opera, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Latvian National Opera, the Bern Opera, the Leipzig Opera and the Estonian National Opera, among others.
Jyrki Anttila’s large repertoire includes a great number of major tenor roles such as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra, the Duke in Rigoletto, Matteo in Arabella, Don José in Carmen, Andrei Khovansky in Khovanshchina, the False Dimitri in Boris Godunov, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Renato des Grieux in Manon Lescaut, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Boris in Katya Kabanova and Steva in Jenufa.
He has also been featuring leading tenor roles of the Finnish opera repertoire, such as Juhana in The Last Temptations by Joonas Kokkonen; Antti in The Ostrobothnians by Leevi Madetoja, Shemeikka in Juha by Aarre Merikanto, Merchant of Novgorod in The Horseman by Aulis Sallinen, Felix Ysupov in Rasputin by Einojuhani Rautavaara.
Jyrki Anttila is also at home in operetta repertoire and has performed roles such as Count Tassilo in Countess Maritza by Kálmán, Edwin in Die Czardasfürstin by Kálmán or Count Danilo in The Merry Widow by Lehár.
As a concert soloist, Attila has appeared in Europe, the USA, Australia and Japan.
