Shahar Lavi

Mezzo Soprano


Coloratura mezzo-soprano Shahar Lavi was born in Israel. 2017-2019 she was soloist at Theater Heidelberg, where her repertoire included Zerlina/ Don Giovanni, Siébel/ Faust, Zweite Dame/ Die Zauberflöte, Orlovsky/ Die Fledermaus, Maddalena/ Rigoletto, Varvara/ Katya Kabanova, Hannah A. in the world premiere of P.Ruzickas’s Benjamin and two baroque operas at the Schlosstheater Schwetzingen, Rustana/ Vivaldi’s La verità in cimento and Farnace/ Porpora's Mitridate. She was nominated for the Young artist 2018 in the Opernwelt magazine.
In the autumn 2019 she is joining the ensemble of Nationaltheater Mannheim. Upcoming roles include Wendla in the world premiere of Thomalla’s Dark Spring, Hänsel/ Hänsel und Gretel, Cupidon/ Orpheus in der Unterwelt, Page/ Salome and Stimme von oben/ Die Frau ohne Schatten.

As a guest at the Landestheater Salzburg, Shahar Lavi has sung Cherubino/ Le Nozze di Figaro and Dorabella/ Cosi fan tutte and is this season performing Fatime/ Oberon. She has appeared as Cherubino in Kaiserslautern, as Zerlina in Mannheim and as Orlovsky in Ludwigshafen.

Shahar Lavi started her career at the Israeli Opera with roles such as Siébel/ Faust, Tisbe/ La Cenerentola, Clotilde/ Norma, Alisa/ Lucia di Lammermoor and Stéphano/ Roméo et Juliette. She sang Rosina/ Il barbiere di Siviglia with Perugia Music Festival and Cherubino at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

Shahar Lavi is a graduate of the Tel Aviv University Buchman-Mehta Music Academy and was a member of Israeli Opera’s Meitar opera studio 2014-2016, where she performed Romeo/ I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Dorabella/ Cosi fan tutte. At the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro she sang Corinna and Maddalena/ Il Viaggio a Reims under Alberto Zedda. She attended the YAP at the Ravinia Stean's Music Festival and was a member of the Tenerife Opera Estudio appearing as Cherubino at the Tenerife opera house.

Her concert repertoire includes Berlioz’ Les Nuits d'été, Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn and 4th symphony, Mozart's Requiem,  Coronation Mass and Mass in G, Rossini's Petite messe solennelle, Händel's Messiah, Bach's Magnificat, Vivaldi's Gloria, Duruflé's Requiem, Vaughan Williams' Magnificat a.o.

Shahar Lavi won a Gold Medal at the Berlin International Music Competition 2017 and 3rd prize at the Flaviano Labó competition in Piacenza. She is prizewinner of the Buchman-Mehta Competition.
