Biography

The 26 years old Latvian baritone Daniils Pogoriless sang at the Young Singers Project of the Salzburg Festival in summer 2026. His victories in international competitions include the Gabriele Foresta Prize for best baritone voice at the Ottavio Ziino Competition (2024), First Prize at the international Voice of the Sea Competition in Finland (2025) and latest the special prize for the best baritone voice in the final of the Éva Marton competition (2026).

Since 2023 Daniils performs as a guest soloist at the Latvian National Opera, where his repertoire included Schaunard in La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini, Lotario in Flavio, Re de’ Longobardi by Georg Friedrich Händel, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti, and Masetto in Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In summer 2025 Daniils made his German debut at the Heidelberger Schlossfestspiele, performing the roles of Morales and Dancaire in Bizet's Carmen.

Daniils Pogoriless has further honed his vocal and stage artistry, notably through his participation in the Mascarade Emerging Artists Programme in Florence. This experience allowed him to perform at esteemed venues, including the Royal Theatre of Parma, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and Teatro della Pergola in Florence.

In 2022, he participated in the prestigious Operalia competition. His recent accolades include First Prize at the Havets Röst Competition 2025 in ÅIand, and the Gabriele Foresta Prize for Best Baritone Voice at the Ottavio Ziino Competition 2024.

Daniils holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music (class of Assoc. Prof. Krišjanis Norvelis), where he performed the roles of Silvio in Pagliacci and Malatesta in Don Pasquale.
