Soprano / >emerging artist<
Young emerging soprano Emma Kajander is rapidly establishing herself in the opera world, following in the footsteps of esteemed Finnish sopranos, such as Karita Mattila, Camilla Nylund and Soile Isokoski. Emma began her vocal studies in 2019 at the Helsinki Conservatory and continued her studies at the Sibelius-Academy. Emma made her house debut at the Finnish National Opera in 2024, taking on the role of Christine in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical The Phantom of the Opera. On this prestigious stage, she was to continue her career with roles including the First Niece in Peter Grimes in season 2026/27.
In December 2025 Emma made her next house debut at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm as Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. In the summer of 2026 Emma's international presence will expand, when she will portray the main soprano role in the world premiere of the opera Passion of the Common Man by composer Daniel Bjarnason (libretto Royce Vavrek) at the Bregenz Festival in Austria. In addition, she will sing at the festival the orchestral songs “Les Illuminations” by Benjamin Britten.
In 2027/28 season Emma is to be heard both in Finnish National Opera and in Stockholm Royal Opera House as Micaela in Carmen by George Bizet.
Alongside to her career as an opera singer Emma is frequently engaged to sing with various orchestras. In December 2025, she made her debut as the soprano soloist (sister) in Sibelius’ Kullervo Symphony in Stockholm. During the concert season of 2026/27, she will perform „Shéhérazade“, the song cycle by Maurice Ravel, with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Jan Söderblom.
Throughout her burgeoning career, Emma has garnered recognition at several Finnish singing competitions. She has also been awarded the Martti Talvela scholarship for young promising singers and was selected to participate in a masterclass with the illustrious Karita Mattila at Wigmore Hall in London. In the summer of 2025, she attended the bel canto workshop at the Georg Solti Academy in Italy, funded by a full scholarship. This experience has opened doors to future projects in Venice and Budapest, among other exciting opportunities.
