Baritone
American baritone Todd Boyce joined the ensemble of Theater Bielefeld in the autumn 2022. There he has performed the title role in Eugene Onegin and Don Giovanni, Ford Falstaff, Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia, Falke Die Fledermaus, Miles Black in MacRae's Anthropocene, Bussy in Leoncavallo's Zaza, Stanley Kowalski A Streetcar Named Desire, roles in Valtinoni's fairy tale opera Alice in Wonderland and in Hendrickx‘ The Convert.
His recent guest appearances include Böhni Kleider machen Leute in Cottbus, Pelléas Pelléas et Mélisande in Bern, Danilo Die lustige Witwe in Detmold, Cottbus and Hagen as well as Germont La Traviata for Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landestheater. At Oper Zürich he was Melot Tristan und Isolde and revived the role in 2024 with Gstaad Menuhin Festival, at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and at Musikhuset Aarhus, alongside Camilla Nylund and Jonas Kaufmann, conducted by Sir Mark Elder. This season he will appear at Staatstheater Cottbus in the role of Melchior Böhni in Zemlinsky’s Kleider machen Leute.
2016-2021 he was soloist at Theater Bern, where he sang Don Giovanni, Conte Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Alfonso Cosi fan tutte (on short notice also at Oper Zürich), Papageno Die Zauberflöte, Falke Die Fledermaus, Figaro Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Valentin Faust, Marcello La Bohème, Sharpless Madama Butterfly, Roland Fierrabras, Clodomiro Lotario, with a guest performance and video recording at Händel-Festspiele Göttingen, as well as Robert Walser in the world premiere of Die Formel by T. Rasch. As an ensemble member of Luzerner Theater 2011-2016, he performed a broad variety of roles, such as Marcello La Bohème, Germont La Traviata, Enrico Lucia di Lammermoor, Malatesta Don Pasquale, Dandini La Cenerentola, Don Alvaro Il Viaggio a Reims, Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos, Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fred/Petruchio Kiss Me, Kate, the title role of Sweeney Todd, and Victor in the world premiere of Die Antilope by J.M. Staud.
A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory he was an opera studio member at Bayerische Staatsoper 2008- 2010. He reached finals at the competitions Houston Grand, Belvedere, IVC, Montserrat Caballé and Ernst Haefliger (3rd Prize). Among his first roles were Conte Le Nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte, Masetto Don Giovanni, Dandini La Cenerentola, Top The Tenderland and Vicar Albert Herring. 2010-2011 he performed Sid Albert Herring with Tiroler Landestheater. In concert he has performed Händel's Messiah, Israel in Egypt, Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium, Haydn's Die Schöpfung, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Fauré’s Requiem, Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, 5 Rückert Lieder, Kindertotenlieder, Poulenc's Chansons villageoises, Orff's Carmina Burana, Stravinsky's Requiem Canticles, Elegy for J.F.K., Finzi's In Terra Pax, Vaughan-Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem and Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
